Approvals for navigation lights

You will find a short overview about the most important approvals (national and international standards).


IMO

Approved according to the International Regulations Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972 (IMO). 

uscg

Approved according to the regulations of the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

rina

Approved according to the Regulations of the Italian Shipping Register (Registro Italiano Navale = RINA). RINA has been replaced by regulation of wheel mark, but has still the right of continuance.

mca

Approved to the Regulation of the British Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). MCA has been replaced by regulation of wheel mark, but has still the right of continuance.

Approved according to Standard of the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), A-16 (ANS) Electric Navigation Lights


GL

Type test by the Germanischen Lloyd (GL).

Wheelmark

Wheel mark approval – according to the building codes of the EN 14744, applies cross-border in all EU state members. Can be used on commercial shipping vessels, recreational boats and yachts. This approval replaces the original national approval in the European Union.

BSH

The well-known approval of The German Federal Maritime Traffic and Hydrography Agency (BSH). BSH has been replaced by regulation of wheel mark, but has still the right of continuance.

Former symbol of approval for commercial shipping by BSH – has been replaced by wheel mark approval.
Lights with this symbol are allowed on sports boats and yachts – also on inland waterways.

CE

Constructed according to the safety regulations of the European Union. CE does not replace the national approval or wheel mark approval.

emc

EMC is short for Electro Magnetic Compatibility. A measure for the electromagnetic compatibility of LED lights, means the noise sensitivity of electronic devices.
By this we mean the product capability to function in its environment without disturbing or be disturbed by electromagnetic interference.
