Lighting for extremely low temperatures

Floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel Goliat is an impressive construction that will be deployed in the Barents Sea. Glamox is the total supplier of lighting solutions for this project, providing lighting products as well as lighting design.

The cylindrical FPSO Goliat is being built on a standard set by Norsok. The construction is classified for temperatures down to -20˚C (hull) and -18˚C (equipment). Through the study of light measurements in harsh environments, both shipyard and owner are convinced  that Glamox MAX ICE luminaires with LED is the best solution for Goliat.

Robust LED solution
LED is not affected by the ambient temperature and gives just as much light output at +30˚C as -30˚C.  A solution with fluorescent lighting would mean doubling the amount of luminaires to achieve the lux values at -30˚C set by Norsok standard. The LED solution leads to lower maintenance cost, less power consumption and last but not least less installation hours for the yard.

Owner and operator of Goliat

Italian energy giant Eni is the owner and operator of the FPSO Goliat. The vessel will be built by Hundai Heavy Industries in Korea. The FPSO will produce oil in the Goliat field in the Barents Sea, where the harsh environment demands luminaires that can hold low temperatures. Glamox MAX ICE certified for -30˚C is the perfect solution!
