In September 2024, Helgasetr, a multi-purpose building spanning over 18,000 square meters for training, education, and research, officially opened. Glamox has supplied lighting for this impressive facility.

Helgasetr is currently used by the Student Welfare Organization in Gjøvik, Ålesund, and Trondheim (Sit), NTNU, and students. The goal has been to bring together NTNU’s health and social sciences for research and education, alongside various sports and dining facilities provided by Sit. These include the eateries Kafé Ax and Emmer, as well as a space dedicated to student volunteer activities. Helgasetr is BREEAM NOR Excellent certified and classified as a zero-emission building (ZEB-0).

Additionally, the Øya Fitness Center is located within the building, offering more than 3,500 square meters of training space for students. Sit refers to it as ‘Norway’s best student gym.’

Glamox has supplied a total of 2,500 luminaires for the project, ranging from energy-efficient downlights, spotlights, pendant, ceiling, and wall-mounted fixtures to a variety of decorative and outdoor lighting solutions. Several architectural products from the Nordic Collection have been used for decorative lighting in key areas. Caverion Norge served as the installer.

“A large part of the lighting here is smart lighting, which provides light when and where it is needed. Compared to conventional lighting, such systems are expected to deliver energy savings of up to 90 percent. We are pleased to provide high-quality luminaires that meet the needs of students and staff while also contributing to minimizing Helgasetr’s climate footprint,” says Knut Einar Askim, Sales Manager at Glamox.

Lighting designer Abdulah Karahasan from Glamox has played an active role alongside the installer and the project team in selecting various solutions and concepts. From the sales side, Bjørn Skogrand and Øystein Espnes have worked on the project.

“It has been important for Glamox to offer the right lighting solutions, enabling a seamless combination of education, social spaces, and fitness facilities. With over seven decades of experience as a trusted partner, we are committed to ensuring that our customers feel confident in their lighting choices. This is an investment that will pay off for many years,” concludes Askim.

The building was officially opened in September by Minister of Research and Higher Education, Oddmund Hoel. The name Helgasetr can be traced back to the 1100s, referring to the Augustinian monastery Monasterium Sanctæ Sedis, also known as Elgisetr Kloster. Elgi refers to an ancient sacred site, and the Norse Elgisetr later became Helgasetr.
