30 years in the offshore lighting industry

Gordon Low came to Glamox in 2014. His mission was to develop a market for Glamox EX products in the UK offshore oil and gas industry. Five years later, he can boast a very substantial business with several leading exploration, production, and drilling companies in the industry.

GORDON STARTED SELLING “EX” Certified Electrical Equipment, which includes lighting to the offshore market, in 1990. Over the years, he has worked with some very knowledgeable people in the industry and has gradually developed an unique competence on EX products. He has seen the development from monopin lamps to advanced LED luminaires.

“A game changer”

“The technological development is part of what makes this job so interesting. The introduction of LED light sources has been a game changer and has brought new players to the market. This has driven innovation in technology, which has resulted in lower maintenance costs and lower energy consumption for our customers. The requirement for lower energy consumption is also a benefit for the environment”, Gordon says, and continues:

“For Glamox, energy saving is a very important factor, as we do not only develop and manufacture light fittings, but also lighting systems, which again help reduce energy consumption. We have an excellent record of reduced maintenance and improved energy performance with our very innovative range of “EX”Certified and Marine/ Industrial LED lighting with fittings such as our FX/FL60 ranges of low energy flood lights and TX/ TL 60 range of linear lighting.”

Team effort

Gordon is responsible for the sales in Scotland and Ireland but much of the activity is in and around Aberdeen, known as the “Oil Capital of Europe”. He works closely with supply chain companies and distributors, some of who are market leaders in the supply and maintenance of hazardous area electrical equipment.

“It is a team effort,” Gordon says. His job is to make sure that Glamox is the chosen supplier. “My colleagues at Inside Sales in Norway handles the quatation and order process and the order process and works closely with the chosen supply chain, and I work closely with our lighting designers in Norway and Germany to
ensure we give our customers the best in light design.
Of course, many more colleagues from design/manufacturing/logistics are all involved ensuring that our products arrive at our customers on time.”
