Asian shipyards have dominated the world of marine and offshore constructions and local presence has been important for Glamox success. Glamox operations in Asia today comprises of three sales companies and a production plant in China.
From the early 1980s Glamox has grown to be one of the leading suppliers of marine – and offshore lighting to Asian shipyards.
Raymond Tay works as General Manager in Glamox Singapore. He has years of experience in the marine and offshore industry in South East Asia, China and Singapore and have previously held a position as General Manager, Sales for Wartsila Marine Power Solutions in Singapore.
CHINA
In recent years, China has taken a leading role in marine and offshore construction. Construction yards previously focusing on military and naval ships are now involved in commercial renewables, and offshore objects. Glamox Sales China, with Charles Kong as General Manager, offers sales and technical support from their offices in Dalian and Shanghai. With a production facility in Suzhou we are close to the major construction yards.
KOREA
Korean heavyweight Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) entered the world of shipbuilding in the early 70s. During the following decades, Hyundai, together with Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering and Samsung Heavy Industries took a leading role in marine and offshore rig construction. The Korean marine and offshore industry has been an important market for Glamox since the early 80s. Glamox International in Norway served the Korean market until Glamox Korea Co.Ltd was established in 2009. Glamox Korea, headed by Myung Gab Chun is well positioned in Busan, close to the three construction yards.
SINGAPORE
Glamox Pte. Ltd (previously Glamox Far East) was established in 1994 to serve China and the Singaporean market.
Ever since the early 1800s, Singapore has played an influential role in marine and naval construction. Centrally positioned on the southern tip of the Malay peninsula, Singapore is an ideal location for global trading and shipping. Gaining from its shipbuilding and ship repair history, Singapore has played an important role in offshore rig construction. After a market downturn, Singapore is again reclaiming its throne within offshore construction serving the upstream and renewable wind industries.
